
Why we push our bathroom heaters to the breaking point
Putting a high-wattage heater in a bathroom is kind of a gamble. You’ve got a device that gets incredibly hot sitting in a room that’s constantly damp and swinging between freezing and steaming. Now, we could just point to the “IP65” rating on the spec sheet and tell you it’s fine. But specs are just numbers on a page. We’d rather actually break things to see what happens. That’s why we run damp-heat aging tests on every batch.
The problem with steam
Here’s the thing: an IP65 rating is great for stopping dust or a stray splash of water. But steam is a different beast. When a heater clicks off, the air inside the unit cools down and shrinks. That creates a vacuum effect that can actually suck moist air right through the gaskets or cable entries. Once that moisture settles on the electrical terminals, things get messy. You get oxidation. Then you get resistance. And before you know it, the wiring overheats or your breaker trips. Not exactly the vibe you want while you’re stepping out of the shower.
How we test it
We don’t have years to wait and see if a heater lasts, so we cheat. We throw the units into a chamber that mimics years of bathroom abuse in just a few weeks. We crank the humidity, swing the temperature, and flip the power on and off over and over. We’re hunting for three big fails: *The Seals: Do the gaskets warp or crack when they get hot and cold? *The Leaks: Is moisture sneaking in and causing the current to leak? *The Rust: Are the brackets or reflectors starting to pit and peel?
The balancing act
It sounds simple—just seal it tight, right? Not quite. If we make the casing too airtight, the internal electronics basically cook themselves in their own heat. It’s a delicate balance. We have to design specific venting paths that let the heat breathe out while keeping the liquid water from getting in. It takes a bit more work, but it means you don’t have to worry about your heater shorting out six months from now. It’s the difference between something that looks waterproof in a brochure and something that actually survives your bathroom.
